Taguig City Number Coding Hours

If you are driving inside Taguig City, then you must know that contrary to most information available online, almost all local roads in this city are not covered by the number coding scheme. According to Taguig Traffic Management Office (TMO), almost all of Taguig’s internal roads including the Bonifacio Global City (BGC) area are no-coding zones, so drivers can travel freely within the city. The only exception is C5 Road, where the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) number coding rules still apply because it is a major Metro Manila road.

This means that if your route stays within Taguig City—be it within or around BGC, East Service Road, or other local Taguig roads, you are safe from coding restrictions. But if your trip touches C5 road, Kalayaan connections, or other nearby MMDA-controlled stretches, you will still need to check your plate number and travel time carefully.

Number Coding in Taguig City

The MMDA number coding scheme, officially known as the Expanded Unified Vehicle Volume Reduction Program (UVVRP), is a traffic rule that limits vehicles based on the last digit of the plate number. It is a metro-wide rule implemented by the MMDA in an attempt to reduce traffic, especially on the major roads during rush hour. The coding restriction can be confusing for drivers because many people assume the whole city follows Metro Manila coding, which is not fully true. The cities of Makati and Taguig actually have their own rules.

If your office, condo, school, or appointment is inside Taguig City or even BGC, you don’t have to worry about number coding. The entire city is a no-coding area. Whether it is the main city roads or the service roads, no number coding applies as long as you are inside Taguig City boundaries. There is one exception, though—C5 Road. The C5 Road is covered by the MMDA number coding rules, so if you have to drive along, make sure to pay attention to the existing rules.

Number Coding Schedule in C5 Road

On C5 Road, the standard MMDA number coding scheme applies. This means that on weekdays, vehicles whose plate numbers are restricted that day cannot pass through from 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM and 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. The usual schedule for coding restriction is Monday (1–2), Tuesday (3–4), Wednesday (5–6), Thursday (7–8), Friday (9–0).

Take note that because the standard MMDA coding scheme applies on C5 Road, this means that there are window hours for coded vehicles. You can freely drive along from 10:01 AM to 4:59 PM. Just make sure that your route doesn’t enter any Makati roads as they enforce a stricter 7:00 AM–7:00 PM no-window-hours policy.

For Taguig/BGC trips: if you use C5, follow MMDA’s window hours; if your route enters Makati roads, assume the stricter Makati rule may apply unless there’s an official suspension. Remember: C5 follows MMDA rules even if other local Taguig roads do not.

What Roads Should Drivers Be Careful About?

You may still run into problems if you enter Taguig City through:

1. C5 Road

C5 follows MMDA coding rules.

Usual MMDA coding schedule is as follows:

  • Coding hours:
    • 7:00 AM to 10:00 AM
    • 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM
  • Window hours: 10:01 AM to 4:59 PM on weekdays

2. Border Areas

Be extra careful near:

  • Kalayaan / Guadalupe links
  • Makati boundary roads
  • C5 ramps and flyovers

These areas can be confusing because jurisdiction may change quickly.

So, if you really have to worry about number coding, it definitely won’t be because you have to drive in Taguig City. It’s more likely because you’ll have to pass along roads covered by MMDA number coding on your way to Taguig City during your vehicle coding days. If you really have to drive, then make sure to check your exact route, the window hours (if there’s any), and any alternative routes, as it matters more than your destination, especially because even though Taguig City itself is coding-free, your access road may not be.
